The main nuances and subtleties of how firewalls work

In computer networks, a firewall (firewall) detects and blocks network traffic based on predefined or dynamic rules. They protect networks and devices from the intrusion of potentially dangerous cybercriminals who can infect devices and use them for malic

A firewall is a specialized program used to protect a computer's OS from various viruses and hacker attacks. It also monitors the likelihood of connecting to malicious connections by blocking them. This way you can protect your personal information. Always built into Windows by default, unlike third-party software called firewalls.

Main purpose

A firewall is required to perform the following tasks:

  • tracking activated applications and warning users about the possibility of changes in previously installed programs;
  • study of all traffic that comes from open ports;
  • tracking unsecured connections, especially if they try to send various data from the device over the Internet.

Some users give up using a firewall after installing an antivirus program. To make sure that the software copes with the task at hand, it is enough to check the current tasks and files with which the antivirus works.

When choosing a firewall, you need to pay attention to several important criteria:

  • the presence of additional functionality, such as blocking intrusive ads or tracking user traffic on the Internet;
  • how often it is necessary to update the program for stable operation;
  • simplicity and ease of use by the program interface;
  • an up-to-date set of tools for protecting user data.

In some cases, a firewall can block the Internet, but this problem can be solved. First, decide how many resources are blocked and whether there is a connection to the network itself. Therefore, it is recommended to take a few simple steps in turn:

  • check the compatibility of the firewall with the installed antivirus and add it to the program exceptions;
  • unblock applications that provide access to the Internet in the firewall settings;
  • reconfigure the firewall through the control panel, just roll back to the original settings;
  • restart the firewall itself or the computer.

In some cases, a simple reboot of the device is sufficient, if it does not help, try the other recommendations.

The subtleties of configuring and activating the firewall

It is very easy to configure the program to work continuously, you just need to enable the program to work after the first start of the computer. Depending on the current OS, the interface may change slightly, but the principle remains the same. You just need to click the "Enable" button and select for which network you plan to use the firewall.

Internal services are configured in the same place. If necessary, you can adjust the operation of applications by adding them to exceptions or control the operation of the device exclusively on a public network. It all depends solely on your online activity and desire.

You cannot remove the built-in firewall, but you can disable all of its monitoring functions if necessary and also enable it again.
